Coming into the commercial solar world with no prior experience and to take on the role of the O+M manager, develop the O+M offers and take care of the maintenance of existing systems is quite a feat, to do it successfully with minimal guidance in a short space of months is nothing short of impressive.

Tristan Allan

1# Outline the career or training of the nominee, including the background of the nominee’s work, field, or activity.

Completed A Levels in Business Studies, Psychology and Environmental Science. From then moved on to completing a BSc Honours Degree in Environmental Science. While studying for the degree, took up photography as a hobby. Due to this, developed skills in the Adobe creative suite, using programmes such as, Lightroom, Illustrator and Premier.

After finishing university, Tristan started working at a local Starbucks, but continued his photography alongside this. Through this Tristan was able to begin a new role as a Media Operative for Chorley Group. This involved photographing vehicles and events, alongside running the branches part of the website and Autotrader. Further developing his media and sales skills.

Tristan applied for the role of Sales and Marketing Assistant here at Low Carbon Energy at the end of July 2022, and began work in August 2022. He now is responsible for creating sales proposals for any enquiries, creating blog content for the website and social media platforms, designing pieces for use on social media, assisting in the marketing of the business such as, helping with web redesigns and generally speaking to clients along the process, helping with any queries. Alongside this, he aquired his drone license, so is now also responsible for filming and editing video case studies of any finished projects we have recently completed and getting these uploaded to the Website and LinkedIn.”

2# Provide information which will help the judges understand the challenges, problems, and scope of the nominee’s area of activity.

There are a number of challenges within the role, many of which are related to the creative nature of the job. Over recent years the solar industry experienced signficant growth, with the market becoming much more saturated. This makes it increasingly challenging to create content that helps differentiate the business from competitors. Therefore, it is required to be aware of chnages and trends in the market, to ensure the content remains relevant.

External problems can create issues while filming any case studies with the drone. For instance adverse weather conditions make it hard to be able to fly the drone, this was the case while trying to film a project in Coventry, once Tristan arrived on site, it was snowing relatively hard, making it not possible to film. This resulted in a second visit having to be made. Strong wind can also make it difficult to fly, moving the drone at unexpected times. Editing the footage after getting footage during high winds is increasingly challenging as the footage has to remain clear, smooth and professional.

While speaking to clients, it is important that the answers and information you are providing them with are relevant and helpful. This means always being able to answer most questions to the best of his ability, or if he is unsure on the answer himself, being confident in where to direct the client, to best get the answer they need.”

3# Describe the nominee’s exceptional achievements or contributions in his/her chosen field.

Tristan completed his A Levels in Business, Psychology and Environmental Science, recieving good grades as well as being presented with an award for excellent performance across the field of A Levels.

After completing his A-Levels Tristan continued withing education, completing his honours degree in Environmental Science. Whilst attending university, Tristan completed the Carbon Literacy Programme, certifying him as carbon literate. This also qualifies him to train others to become carbon literate.

Whilst working for Low Carbon Energy, Tristan has completed his SolarEdge training and operative health and safety course, required for the CSCS Card. Alongside this he has managed to continuously develop his self taught skills within the Adobe Creative suite, using online training and tutorials to try new methods and create high quality work for the company.”

4# List public statements for employers, college lecturers, external bodies/authorities, and awards that affirm the nominee’s achievements and contributions.

Since Tristan arrived in August 2022 he has provided great support in preparing news items, blogs articles for our website and social media outlets. He has understood our company’s ethos of “inspiring change today to protect future generations” and his focus has been on delivering that on our behalf.

He has had to quickly learn about our offer and be able to confidently talk to customers about the technical services we offer and how they will impact our customers business.

Historically we used to pay outsourced professionals to prepare our case studies, but Tristan now prepares the case studies for use on the website and in social media and has had to obtain his drone pilot licence to complete the camera work for those studies. He does all the editing and narrative for those, and we regularly receive compliments of the quality of the information we post.

A confident member of our team he has been an invaluable asset who will continue to be a big part of the business going forward.
